Seminar on Modern Construction Practices

The Civil Engineering association organized a seminar on “Modern Construction Practices” in association with ICI Student Chapter on 06.02.2019. The Civil Engineering students of about 94 and faculty members have participated in the seminar. The Chief Guest of the seminar was Er. B.A. Kanna Chockkalingam, Charted Engineer, KCM Associates, Coimbatore.

In the first session, the speaker explained about the wide variety of modern methods of construction (MMC) techniques and products which have been developed that have completely changed the behavior of construction industry from what it was before. He also highlighted the changes in modern construction techniques that makes amazing and is in the way to bring more and more developments in this sector. He insisted that the techniques not only ease the construction designs but also optimize the cost of construction.

In the second session, he highlighted some of the following modern construction techniques that make the structure a light weight one.

  • Precast Flat Panel System
  • 3D Volumetric Modules
  • Flat Slab Construction
  • Precast Cladding Panels
  • Concrete Wall and Floors
  • Twin Wall Technology
  • Precast Concrete Foundation
  • Concrete Formwork Insulation

Students were able to gain knowledge about the modern construction techniques which would be helpful for their career in building construction plans and also for their research works.
