A Hands-on training on Simulation of Advanced Power Converters using Matlab for drive applications
08/02/2018
“A Hands-on training on Simulation of Advanced Power Converters using Matlab for drive applications” was conducted by the Department of EEE in association with JIT IEEE Student Branch. The training was arranged for UG/PG students, but response was received from faculty members and research scholars. Various external participants which includes the faculty members, Research scholars and PG scholars of various other institutes and few students of III year EEE also participated. The programme commenced by 10.00a.m. Dr S.Elangovan, HOD/EEE welcomed the gathering and gave the introductory lecture. The first session was handled by Dr T.Meenakshi, ASP/EEE. She gave an introduction to advanced power converters and detailed the simulation of self- boost converters. The concept behind pulse generation, analysis of different waveforms was explained and the participants were side-by side trained in the simulation. The second session was handled by Dr S.Elangovan on space vector modulation. He explained the fundamentals behind Space vector modulation and simulated a model to describe the same. After lunch break, the session was handled by Dr S. Sathish Kumar, ASP/EEE. He described the BLDC drive system, the components involved and its working. A hand on training on the same was provided to the participants and was made to simulate a drive system. The programme closed with certificate distribution and valediction. The participants found the programme to be enriching and the hands on training made them to perform independent simulation.
