Drug Free Tamilnadu – Awareness Rally
The “Drug Free Tamilnadu” event on Dec 4, 2024, from 10:00 AM at Kaniyur Toll Plaza, was organized by the National Service Scheme (NSS) in collaboration with Anti Drugs Club & Youth Red Cross(YRC). The program began with an inspiring Welcome Address delivered by Mr. Aravindhan, an I-Year student, who welcomed all the attendees and set the tone for the event. He highlighted the significance of raising awareness on drug abuse and its long-term impacts on society. Following this, the Presidential Address was given by Dr. M. V. Suresh Kumar, Director of Administration. In his speech, he emphasized the crucial role of education, community support, and government efforts in creating awareness and curbing drug addiction. He urged the gathering to understand the harmful effects of substance abuse and its repercussions on individuals, families, and communities. then he welcomed the Chief Guests of the event included prominent local leaders Thiru. K. Velusamy, President of Kaniyur Panchayat, Thiru. Raju, Vice President of Kaniyur Panchayat and Thiru. M. Radhakrishnan, Sub-Inspector at the Karumathampatti Police Station. Each of these distinguished guests addressed the audience, reinforcing the need for a unified approach in the fight against drugs. Afterward, Thiru. K. Velusamy, in his speech, highlighted the role of local governance in tackling drug abuse at the grassroots level. He emphasized that community leaders must collaborate with schools, collages, police, and other organizations to build awareness and implement preventive measures effectively. Then, Thiru. M. Radhakrishnan, the Sub-Inspector of Karumathampatti Police Station, spoke about the law enforcement’s ongoing efforts to combat drug-related crimes and its role in the rehabilitation of drug victims. He emphasized the importance of a holistic approach, which includes not only law enforcement but also support from the community to reduce drug dependency and provide rehabilitation services. The speeches highlighted that awareness campaigns, supported by strict law enforcement and rehabilitation programs, are key to mitigating the spread of drug abuse in the community. The program was well-attended by students and locals. The Volunteers distributed pamphlets and posters to spread awareness about the dangers of drug abuse. Finally, to conclude the program, Dr. K. Senthamil Selvan, the NSS Program Officer, delivered the Vote of Thanks. He expressed gratitude to the chief guests, speakers, and all participants for their valuable contributions. He also thanked the attendees for their commitment to the cause and urged them to take responsibility in spreading awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and supporting the collective vision of a drug-free Tamil Nadu. Overall the event concluded on a positive note, with participants feeling inspired to contribute to building a drug-free Tamil Nadu.
