A Technical Contest on Glider & Water Rocketry was organized on 08th September 2021 by the Department of Mechanical Engineering in association with SAE JIT Collegiate Club of Jansons Institute of Technology, Coimbatore. The Contest was organized especially for the third and second-year students of various departments to explore the technical skills in the field of aerodynamics and fluid mechanics. The Models were evaluated in the Physics laboratory and after that the model is tested in the football ground. Total 36 students as 27 teams from all the departments of II-year and III-year were participated. 

In this event each team made a rocket using 500/1000 ml PET bottle and launched it using compressed air and water mixture as propellant. This event was conducted as two rounds; in the first round, water rocket is launched to reach maximum distance and the second round is to precisely hit a target (a circular zone of 5 m radius) which is 8 meters away from the launch pad. 18 teams actively participated in the event. All launches were made from a common launch pad. Based on the scores obtained in the two rounds one winning teams and two runner-up teams were selected in the each category. The entire event was organized in football ground.

 

Students made a paper glider considering the aerodynamics of the flight to reach maximum distance. The winning teams were selected based on the longest distance travelled with the two attempts. A total of 27 members were actively participated in the event, which is conducted in the football ground. Based on the Scores obtained one winning team and two runner-up teams were selected.

 

For all the participants’ participation E-Certificate is been provided and the winning teams were honored with appreciation certificate.
